What Sets Cornerstone Apart?
Our Mission
CCA exists to provide students an exemplary Christ-centered
education, preparing them to pursue higher education, while promoting service to
others in the name of Christ.
Our Motto
"Impacting Culture for the Glory of God"
Our Classes The emphasis throughout the school is to appropriately challenge each child and to
ensure individual success. To this end, academic and spiritual foundations are laid beginning in kindergarten. CCA's kindergarten is a full-day program which has students reading by Christmas, and writing in cursive by June. It's exciting to see these students learn! Spanish is offered in all elementary grades beginning in kindergarten, and CCA also has a computer lab with instruction for each grade.
Since Cornerstone limits class sizes, individual attention is always given to
each child. Because of space constraints and growth in our Upper School
classes (grades 6-12), we will not have more than two sections of any elementary
grade. Kindergarten classes are limited to 20 each, and all other grades
to 24. Another great part of each week is Friday Chapel. A highlight for both students and faculty, Chapel speakers include area pastors,
a great time of music and worship, and students also recite memory verses learned in their Bible classes. "Spirit Week" is our spiritual emphasis each spring, with Chapel daily.
ENROLLMENT
Currently enrolled students have the opportunity to re-enroll
each January. There is a registration fee of $75 due at the time
re-enrollment forms are submitted. Submission of this form does not
guarantee placement, but informs the academy that the student desires a spot.
On February 15 re-enrolling students will be notified of placement status and
tuition contracts will be mailed. A non-refundable tuition deposit of $500
per student is due on or before May 31, 2010 which secures the student's
placement and is credited toward annual tuition.
Re-enrollment forms turned in after January 31 must have a
$125 registration fee attached. Students who submit re-enrollment forms
after January 31 will be considered with new applicants on April 1.
For each new student desiring to attend CCA, an application must be
completed by the parent(s)/legal guardian(s). There is a $100 application fee which is non-refundable. Admission to the Academy is determined by entrance tests, previous school records, recommendations, and an interview conducted with the parent and the student by the Administrator or Principal.
Cornerstone Christian Academy accepts a certain
number of students per class. When a class has been fully seated, a
waiting list is created. Except for preschool classes, waiting lists are
not first-come, first-served; rather, when a seat opens in a class,
administration will choose what it believes to be the applicant (parent and
child viewed together) that best fulfills the admission criteria and best
personifies the mission statement of the school. The academy's first
commitment is to our current families and their currently enrolled children.
We are committed to each student's success and will work to
that end. However, that also means it is important to admit those students
who fit the mission and vision. At each academic level, admissions
criteria will become more comprehensive:
-
Pre-School - No application required. Students
enroll on a first-come, first-served basis.
-
Elementary (K-5) - Application, recommendations and test
scores required.
-
Junior High (6-8) - Application, recommendations, test
scores and indication of ability required.
-
Senior High (9-12) - Application, recommendations, test
scores, demonstration of achievement, and expressed desire to attend
required.
Upon receipt of the application, an
applicant may be scheduled for a diagnostic academic examination appropriate to
the grade level. The exam includes parts of the Stanford Achievement Test
for grades 1-8. The exam for High School applicants consists of the Math
Placement Test. All kindergarten applicants will be scheduled for the
Gesell Developmental Assessment test. Testing dates for applicants for the
fall of 2010 are:
Monday, February 15,
2010
Saturday, March 6,
2010
Tuesday, March 30,
2010
Friday, April 30, 2010
Monday, May 24, 2010
Monday, June 28, 2010
Monday, July 26, 2010
Once a student has
been accepted, a placement packet will be mailed which includes a tuition
contract, school covenant and an account information form. A $125
registration fee for each student must be received by the Academy Office within
two weeks of notification of acceptance.
TUITION
DEPOSIT
A non-refundable
tuition deposit of $500 per student is due within two weeks of notification of
admission (new students) and by May 31, 2010 for all returning students.
This deposit secures the student's placement and will be credited toward annual
tuition.
Is there a dress code?
At CCA, students are required to be neat, clean, and modest in their appearance. Jeans and shorts are acceptable, but a more dressed appearance is
preferred for both Chapel and field trips.
Does CCA offer Before or After School Care?
Cornerstone does have an active before and after school care program. This care is billed monthly to those families who use it. Students may arrive as early as 7:15 AM and stay as late as 5:30 PM.
Is Cornerstone affiliated with other Christian schools?
CCA is fully accredited through the
Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
A self-perpetuating Board of Trustees representing a broad base of evangelical
churches governs it. We have also received recognition from the
Illinois High School Association (IHSA).
Does CCA offer multiple child discounts?
Cornerstone does not offer such
discounts, but does have an active Student Assistance Program. Assistance
is given on a per-need basis.
What's CCA's vision for the future?
We relocated to a 52,000 square
foot building on 78 acres
on
Bloomington's east side in the fall of 2003. Currently, a 28,000
square foot addition is being built to house our growing upper school classes.
What about discipline?
Cornerstone Christian Academy trains its students to strive to live above reproach, showing respect for God, country, family, faculty, and fellow students. Teachers have a discipline plan for the classroom to create an environment where learning can take place.
Can parents be involved?
We encourage
parents to be involved in the life of the school and provide ways to do so!
Does CCA have a Non-Discriminatory Policy?
CCA does not discriminate against students of any gender, race, color, nationality, or ethnic origin in its admission of educational policies or its scholarship, athletic, or other school-administered programs.
Development
Cornerstone is not like other schools in that we have a strict no-fundraising policy.
Our students will never be asked to sell anything! Instead, we rely on the generosity of God's people through voluntary gift donations
to help meet each year's budget. In addition to the support of
current parents, Cornerstone is blessed by the contributions of grandparents,
staff, board members, friends of the school and local churches.
Most contributions to Cornerstone Christian Academy fit into one of three
categories:
• Annual Fund gifts
Annual Fund contributions help pay the day-to-day expenses of operating the
school. These funds help to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual
cost of education.
• Student Assistance Fund gifts
Over the years, this fund has helped over 700 students attend Cornerstone
who would not have been able to without support. CCA steps out in faith
each year, awarding assistance to those in need before the funds are given!
This year (2008-2009) over $200,000 will be needed to complete the awards.
•
Building Fund gifts
Our "Hear From Heaven" Campaign is underway and we are excited to see our new
addition go up! The total cost for this 28,000 square foot addition is $3.3 million.
•
Gifts of Stock
CCA is able to receive both gifts of stock as well as State Farm Mutual Funds. If you would like to make a gift of stock, please contact
April Kinzinger, Director of Development.
